some background on Pandora jewellery

PANDORA started in 1982 when Per and Winnie Enevoldsen opened a jewelry shop in the Danish capital of Copenhagen. When the demand for their unique products increased, the couple shifted their focus to the wholesale business. In 1984 the couple opened their own production facility in Thailand, PANDORA Productions, and hired designer Lone Frandsen to help create a unique jewelry line. In 1996, PANDORA — strictly a wholesale dealer by then — hired its second designer, goldsmith Lisbeth Enø Larsen, who worked with Lone to create PANDORA’s signature style and customizable charm bracelet.

PANDORA jewelry is sold in more than 20 countries throughout the world.

PANDORA is perhaps known best for its bourgeoise twist on the classic charm bracelet. In 1999, PANDORA introduced its patented charm bracelet to the Danish market, and the bracelets quickly became popular all across Europe. PANDORA bracelets have a patented threading system that allows charms to be placed, added and rearranged, by the wearer, offering a myriad of combinations of colour to suit any style.

Pandora - a Greek Goddess

In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman, apparently created jointly by each of the then male gods by giving her unique gifts including jewelry. Some of the gifts from the gods were good and some were evil, hence the myth of Pandoras Box (which was actually a jar or urn), when curiosity got the better of her and she took the lid off the jar all but one of the gifts from the gods escaped, including the evil ones such as pestilence. Only one gift remained in the jar, the gift of "hope".

The name Pandora translates to "all-giving".

Images and statues of Pandora vary greatly however in common was that she was beautiful and in many adorned with jewelry, so not surprisingly the name Pandora is associated with beautiful jewellery
